Book 1: New Friends
Chapter 1: The New Year
"First day of school! All right!" A hyperactive sunshine blonde grabbed her stuffed suitcase and ran towards the huge double doors of Alfea College for Fairies. When she reached them, she turned to see her flame-haired best friend lagging behind, a worried expression on her face. "Katherine, hurry up!"
When the two girls reached the top of the stairs, they found an older-looking lady with a clipboard standing in front of the dorms.
"Next!" Grizelda called, "And who are you two?"
"I'm Samantha from Solaria." Samantha explained, "And this is Katherine Peters from Sparks. Our mothers worked out our admission with the headmistress, so we are on the list. You don't have to waste time checking."
"I have to check all the same, due to some incidents that occurred some years ago... Katherine, Samantha, ah... there you are. And if you want to complain about the sign-in, blame your mothers. Come on in, and welcome to Alfea. Next."
"I think that was Grizelda." said Katherine, looking over her shoulder at the school's main disciplinarian, "My mom told me about her."
"So did mine." said Samantha, "But she's not exactly how she described. Come on, let's go find our room and meet our roommates."
Both girls lugged their suitcases through the dorm hallways to their room. Along the way girls were getting unpacked and greeting old friends. Katherine and Samantha were supposed to be sharing their dorm with four other princesses. The paper with their dorm information listed them as Princess Liona of Pluneta, Princess Aliana of Gracidea, Princess Dalia of Linphea, and Princess Summer of Seasonia.
"Okay, according to this, we're sharing a room, this Liona and Aliana are sharing a room, and Summer and Dalia share a room." Samantha read off the paper. Upon reaching the door to their dorm, they peeked inside. Three other girls were visible in the room.
"I wonder who's who?" whispered Katherine, and Sam shrugged.
Inside the dorm, there were three doors, leading to their bedrooms. One set of doors was slightly open, but no one appeared to be inside. In the middle, the doors were wide open, and two girls in the midst of unpacking stood arguing. The last set of doors was tightly shut, with a 'Do Not Disturb' sign on it. On the couch in the middle of the living room, a third girl sat reading the school handbook.
"I know you have it!" The dark haired, brown-eyed Asian girl said loudly, hands on her hips, "We're sharing the same room." On the bed behind her, a few suitcases lay open, their contents strewn all over the place. Across from her, a leggy blonde was sitting on her bed, her arms folded and a large white dog by her side.
"I didn't take it!" retorted the white blonde, who had a distinct, deep Southern accent, "I've kept all my things on my side of the room. Plus, I only own and want one necklace, and I'm wearing it. Why would I take yours?"
The girl on the couch looked up when she noticed Sam and Kathy standing in front of her; she turned as if to interrupt the argument, then decided against it. Turning back towards them, she shut her book and stood, offering her hand. "I'm Summer. And you are?"
Samantha shook her hand, then said, "I'm Samantha, of Solaria. And this is Katherine, of Sparks." Katherine was currently eying the two in the back, and was slowly inching towards the door. Sam grabbed her arm and yanked her forward. Summer raised her eyebrows, and then told them she was from the realm of Seasonia.
Behind them, the argument continued with -"Hah! I told you I didn't have it!" "Okay, okay! So you were right!"- and she shot them a dirty look. "Sounds like they found Liona's necklace. Want me to get them?"
Katherine started to say, "No, that's okay, they don't look done," but before she could get the words out Summer was calling for Liona and the blonde, Ali, to join them.
"Kathy..." said Samantha, grabbing Katherine's arm, "It's okay. They're done arguing." Summer proceeded to introduce them to Liona, a petite Asian girl with shoulder length black hair pulled back in a yellow headband.
"Nice to meet you both." said the Asian girl, who had stopped arguing with the white-blonde, and was fixing a necklace with a tiger eye stone in it around her neck, "Welcome to Alfea. As Summer's already said, I'm Liona from Pluneta."
"And I'm Aliana, from Gracidea. But y'all can call me Ali, for short." said the white-blonde, who had come up to stand next to Liona, and was followed by the large white dog.
"Nice to meet you all too!" said Katherine nervously, but still cheery. "Are you going to let go of my arm now, Sammy?"
"Are you going to try to run off again?" Samantha asked, knowingly, with her hand on her hip.
"No." Katherine sighed, and Samantha let her go. All the girls sat down, and started talking about where they'd come from, and what their powers were, and just things in general. Summer's powers revolved around the seasons, like her realm, as did Ali's with her ice powers. Liona's powers were electricity based, but her home realm is very connected to nature. Katherine and Samantha's powers were identical to their mothers, or very nearly; Samantha's were light, and Kathy's were fire.
"Have you two known each other long?" Liona asked.
"We pretty much grew up together." said Samantha.
"Wait," Katherine said, looking at the girls gathered. "Aren't there supposed to be six of us?" Noticing the absence of a girl, three of the four started looking around for the missing roommate. Ali, the fourth, just shook her head.
"She was suppose to finish up an hour ago!" Ali sighed, and turned to the door behind her. "Dalia! DALIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Our new dormmates are here!"
"Good gosh, Ali, keep it down! My plants don't like the noise!" a new girl, a brunette with a light English accent, said as she opened the door and walked out, "Can't the plants get some peace around here?"
"So sorry to disturb your precious plants, Dali," Ali said with an edge in her voice, practically spitting the words out in her disdain. "Katherine, Sam, this is Dalia, from Linphea. But we all call her Dali."
"Hey." Katherine and Samantha said together.
"Hello to you too." said Dali, a bit more enthusiastically, "When did you two get here?" She dusted her hands off from gardening and shook their hands.
"About twenty minutes ago." said Samantha. "Now, we probably need to get to unpacking." She reached around and grabbed her two suitcases, and motioned for Kathy to do the same.
"So do we," commented Ali, looking to the middle set of doors, "Liona and I got so caught up in looking for her necklace, we never finished. And we still have a lot to do. Let's see, you two can be in the last one."
"All right, then." The six girls split up and headed to their individual rooms. About a half hour later, Sam was finished unpacking. Kathy, on the other hand, was still trying to shove all her clothes into her dresser.
"I'm going to go see how the other girls are doing, all right?" A grunt of accession came from her friend as she pushed on the drawer. Leaving her to that, Samantha wandered over to the middle doors, which were still open, but the two girls inside were no longer arguing. In fact, Liona was sitting on her bed sketching, and Ali was relaxing on the floor next to a large white dog. The blonde looked up as Sam entered the room, and smiled.
"I take it you're done unpacking?" Sam grinned, and sat down next to her. Together they watched Liona sketch Blizzard, who was sitting as still as a statue.
"Yeah, I'm done. Kathy, on the other hand, brought enough clothes for an army, and is still trying to make them all fit. Who is this?" She reached over and stroked the dog behind the ears.
"This is Blizzard. She's my sort-of bonded pet. She's a ghost hound, from the Omega Dimension." A large clock unexpectedly made a sudden gong somewhere on campus. Ali stood, went over and shook Liona out of her artist's stupor, and turned to Samantha. "We probably should go see how the others are doing, and then maybe go get some dinner in Magix. I'm starving."
As it turned out, all the other girls were done, and the six rejoined in the main room.
"Now that we're all here, time for some bonding." said Summer, slipping into her shoes, a pair of white sandals. Her dormmates agreed, and they debated for a minute over what to get; in the end, pizza was chosen as the all-around favorite. Once everyone had grabbed their necessities, they ran to catch the metro to Magix.
On the ride to Magix, the girls started to open up a bit and talking about their families and homes. Of course, everyone was curious about Kathy and Sam- they were the only ones who had known each other prior to Alfea.
"Tell me again." said Liona, smoothing out her hair and replacing her headband, "How long have you two known each other?"
"Well, we grew up together. Our mothers were best friends at Alfea, and they remained very close even after graduating. So, we grew up like sisters." said Samantha, "We're each others' right hands." She told them about all the good times they'd had, and the stories her mother had told her about her own time at Alfea.
"Is that someone's phone?" Ali asked, hearing a faint sound of a phone's ring. All of the girls simultaneously checked their phones; only one was ringing.
"It's mine." Katherine admitted, picking up her phone and putting it to her ear, "It's probably my mom...Hello? Andro, hi. How's Red Fountain?" She tucked her hair behind her ear and blushed bright pink. "Really? That's great! Yeah, I just got to Alfea... my new roommates and I are going to get pizza in Magix."
"Who's Andro?" Summer asked, looking up from the same book as she had in the dormitory.
"He's Katherine's crush." Samantha explained, a little grin flashing on her face. "He's also my twin brother."
"No way! But, how does that work, exactly? The whole 'brother and best friend' dating thing?" asked Ali.
"It's true. And it's a non-issue... they're not dating." Sams smile vanished. "She just gets too nervous around him! She stutters and fidgets... it's hopeless." This elicited a round of giggles from everyone.
"Hey! I'm not deaf, you know." Katherine said loudly, putting down her switched-off phone.
"Sorry, Kathy." said Samantha, grinning sheepishly.
"What's wrong? You were quick with that call." Dali said, combing her long, chocolate locks with her fingers and fixing a flower in it.
"I normally am." said Katherine, turning away and shoving her phone in her pocket.
Once they arrived in Magix and got to the pizzeria, the girls were through their third dish of pizza when an opportunity arose for a continuation of the earlier discussion on Katherine and her love life, or lack thereof.
"Excuse me girls, I need to use the restroom." said Katherine, dropping her ham and tomato pizza onto the plate and scooting her chair back. After she was safely out of earshot, the remaining girls leaned in for the scoop, and in Ali and Dali's case, the remaining pepperoni pizza.
"Ali! You can't just help yourself like that!" Liona scolded, and offered her a napkin. Dali, sensing she was being scolded too, dropped her pizza and wiped her mouth as well.
"Whoopsie, sorry." Ali said, blushing, her mouth full.
"Anyway, Sammy? You were saying something about Kathy and Andro on the bus before the phone call ended." Dalia said, nibbling on the leftovers with slightly more decorum than her friend.
"I try and I try, but I can't get those two any closer." said Samantha, in an annoyed tone. She had tried various times over the past three or four years to arrange a date, but her plans always backfired. Sam sheepishly told them about the worst of her schemes- involving another princess from the realm of Isis and a huge gala on Domino- and other unsuccessful plots.
When Katherine finished in the restroom, she was about to rejoin the girls when she rammed into another customer.
"Save it, pixie." The girl, a scary thin girl with dark, heavy eyeliner and purple lipstick, shoved past her to the door to join her two friends, similarly dark and scary looking girls. Katherine stood there for a moment, deciding what to do- rejoin her friends or follow the girls, who definitely look up to no good. Noticing her friends seemed to be deep in conversation, she slipped out the door behind the rude girl.
When she got outside, she looked around to see an empty street. Just as she was about to go back inside, she was knocked flat onto her back by the first girl. Her friends stood over by the alley entrance.
"What do we have here?" said the first witch, attracting the attention of the other two. They walked over and stood looming over her.
"I was just leaving." said Katherine, nervously, and started to climb to her feet.
"Fairies who sneak up on witches don't leave so quickly." said the first witch. She flicked her fingers and knocked Kathy across the street and right up against a building. The witch's two friends summoned two huge balls of energy and joined their friend in front of Katherine.
Back at the pizza cafe
"Where's Katherine?" Summer asked, worried. "She sure is taking a long time for a bathroom break." Liona, who had gone to check on her, came back from the bathroom, a pensive expression on her face.
"I just talked to some people inside." said Liona as she sat back down. "Katherine came out of the restroom, but it seems like she went somewhere else."
"I don't like this." said Samantha, getting up, ready to head for the door. Ali grabbed her arm and sat her back down.
"I'm sure she's fine. She seemed like the type who could handle her problems." Ali told her, releasing her arm leaning back slightly in her chair and downing the rest of her sweet tea.
"That's not what my gut tells me." Sam started worrying her napkin and looking around the restaurant, searching for any sign of her flame-haired friend. Summer reached over and took the napkin away before she shredded into into pieces.
"Um...are you okay, Samantha?" Dalia asked with wide open eyes.
Sam shook her head. "I've known her my whole life. I've always been able to feel when something was wrong. And right now, something is very wrong."
Meanwhile, out in the street, Katherine had transformed to fight the witches, but was easily overpowered and almost defeated. Ice crystals covered her wings, her hair was a messy rat's nest and she was stumbling around, suffering from the affects of a confusion ray. Her adversaries had turned out to be three junior witches from Cloud Tower- Freeze, Bolt, and Illusion.
"This is too easy." said the first witch.
"You won't win!" said Katherine, "Phoenix Flower!" The spell had no effect. Her target laughed, and pinned her to the building again with more ice crystals. Freeze was by far the most dangerous to her- ice would dampen her powers and render them useless. Bolt and Illusion were in the background, letting their leader handle her.
"Pathetic." said Bolt. All around her was a crackling presence that protected her, "What should we do with her?"
"I say we pluck her wings off." Illusion suggested.
"Good idea." said Freeze., "I'll do the honors, pixie." Just as she was reaching for Katherine's trapped wings, the crystals surrounding her shattered, allowing Katherine to roll free. Once she was out of reach, she looked up to see Ali hovering nearby- had she shattered the ice crystals?
"KATHERINE!" Samantha shouted. Her new dormmates had followed her out into the street, and they had all transformed into their fairy forms.
"Samantha!" Katherine called back.
Seeing they were outnumbered, the witches teleported out- best to save their strength for when they were better prepared. Samantha and Summer rushed over to check on her, while Ali, Dalia, and Liona stayed back watching. When Samantha was done determining Kathy's wellbeing and the fact that it was almost curfew, all the girls rushed back to Alfea.
After returning to their dorm, the girls went their separate ways for the night. Leo and Ali headed for their room, where they proceeded to discuss the events of the day and what had occurred in the back alley. Summer and Dalia, after checking on Dalia's plants and making sure their heat lamp was on, went to sleep without another word. Katherine copied their example, but Samantha remained awake long into the night, worried about her best friend's low spirits- and what she could do to raise them.
Chapter 2: The Dance
The next day after their adventure in Magix, classes started. All the girls had to drag themselves out of bed to get to their classes, no two of which were the same until third period. Ali was the last one into class, sliding into her seat next to Liona right as the bell rang. Their tiny teacher climbed up onto his desk to address the whole class. "Welcome to class, girls." Wizgiz said. "As you know, today we're starting transformation. Now, it's not as easy as it sounds, and it's not like transforming into your fairy forms. Transformation is very difficult, and disastrous should you mess up. You may end up stuck like that forever. So today we will start with something simple. Please change your hair color." Professor Wizgiz snapped his fingers, and small mirrors appeared on all the desks.
Some girls had a decent success- on the far right of the room, two of the fairies from the dorm next to them had managed to put bright streaks in their hair. Kaia had opted for a violent shade of purple in her black hair, and her roommate, Terra, had made the lower half of her hair tomato red.
Behind them, one dark-skinned Earth fairy had made her hair pink- Mia, the Harajuku girl, had an obsession with it, judging by her luggage that had been stacked in the front hall- and her cousin, Stephanie, had lengthened hers a bit and made it orange. Wizgiz stopped by their desk and marked an A on his clipboard.
Liona and Ali shared a desk in the front of the class, and Liona was absent-mindedly switching her brown highlights between hot pink, neon blue, and highlighter yellow, and her shoulderlength black hair to white. After returning her locks to normal, she looked over at her deskmate and started to laugh. "Nice 'do, Ali. Trying to avoid the dumb-blonde stereotype?"
"Har-har. I'll have you know blonde has nothing to do with brains- and for that matter, neither does brunette." Ali sniped back, rebraiding her newly-transformed brown locks. Beside them, Summer and Dalia had already finished the assignment and were watching Samantha and Katherine's progress- or, in a certain redhead's case, lack thereof.
"I already made my hair 5 different colors." said Summer, who was examining her hair in the mirror. "What about you guys?"
"Pretty much the same. Wizgiz gave us an A." Liona said, then looked across at Kathy and Sam. "Looks like Sam's going to get one too. Katherine, on the other hand . . ."
"Is a show-off as she normally is?" asked Aliana, who was sneaking her cell under her desk and not looking up. Leo snatched her phone and shoved her, then proceeded to reply to the boy Ali was currently texting.
"She's managed to add some blond locks." Dalia whispered, so Katherine couldn't hear,"But she can't seem to do anything else."
"It's her lack of confidence! It's the same thing that got her in trouble yesterday, with those witches." declared Samantha. "She's always like this when it comes to magic. But, now that we're at Alfea... I have a plan."
"What's your idea?" Summer asked. Samantha snuck a look over her shoulder at Katherine, who had laid her mirror down and was staring off into space.
"Here's what we do..."
"Come on, Kathy! You can do it!" After class, Katherine and Samantha sat in their dorm. Sam's idea was to coach Kathy, then have her ready to face off in a battle next week in class. So far, though, her attempts had gone nowhere; Katherine wasn't even able to put blonde streaks in her hair anymore.
"No, I can't! Why won't you just leave me alone?" Katherine cried. She curled herself up into a ball and turned away from Samantha. Sam sighed. She was going to accomplish nothing like this.
"Fine. Fail. Get kicked out. I tried."
"Well?" Liona asked. Ali was listening up against the door, with the other girls waiting for news. Dalia was checking her watch and tapping her foot impatiently.
"Sam's not making any progress with Kathy." said Ali, "And Kathy's being a little . . ."
"Uncooperative?" Summer suggested.
"I was going to say moody and stubborn as a mule. But uncooperative works." Ali stood up straight and stretched. "How much more time should we give them?"
"None." Dalia interrupted. "Lunchtime!" she called at the door.
"Come on Katherine!" Summer said encouragingly, "Eat something." All the freshman sat in the cafeteria, eating their lunch. Ali and Leo had quickly claimed a table near one of the long windows that overlooked the lake.
"I'm not hungry." Katherine said gloomily. Ali rolled her eyes, and Liona jabbed her in the side, hissing "Be nice."
"How?" Samantha asked frustratedly ,"You didn't even eat breakfast."
"Fiiiiiiiiiiiiine. I will eat the food. Now will you let me be?"
"May I have your attention please?" Miss Faragonda stood at the front of the room, waiting patiently for the room full of girls to quiet.
"As in the Alfea tradition, we will have a formal dance tonight. The boys from Red Fountain and the Cloud Tower witches will be attending. I must remind you, that the witches are invited to maintain friendly relations with the schools; and as a further reminder, love spells and crush potions are forbidden to be used on the boys. All the same, look your best and have fun, dears. Carry on." She smiled and left the room- when the door shut behind her, the room instantly became abuzz with chatter.
Back at the table, the six girls had leaned in to discuss this new information. "Excellent!" said Summer excitedly.
"I've been needing to find a guy for some time." said Liona. Summer nodded in agreement- Katherine was the only one at the table with a guy in her life. Ali, on the other hand, shook her head in disdain.
"What? Need? A girl needs a guy like a witch needs another set of stiletto boots." Dalia, Summer and Liona all stared at her. "What?"
"Says the girl who was texting some Andy all during Transfiguration the other day."
"Enough about Andy. Why don't we talk about Andro and his presence at the dance tonight?" Katherine started, and shoved her plate away. Samantha groaned; at this rate Kathy would faint from hunger before the dance ever started.
"Aliana Torvald!" Dalia shoved her off her seat. "That was extremely uncalled for!" From the floor, Ali shook her head indignantly, claiming it was called for and Katherine needed to stop being so sensitive. Katherine started to sniffle, and she ran out of the hall. Shooting the icy blonde a dirty look, Samantha ran after her.
"What is wrong with you, Ali?"
Back in the Dorms
Later that afternoon, the dorms were full of pre-dance chaos. Girls ran from suite to suite with straighteners, makeup, and spell books. In the girls' suite, Katherine, Samantha, Summer, Dalia and Liona were shaking out their ballgowns and getting ready to start the long process of getting ready. Ali was still in disgrace from earlier, and she had gone to get ready with a few girls she'd met in Battle Magic 101.
"How's this look?" Liona held up her silky, Chinese-style dress against her frame. Summer nodded in approval.
"Gorgeous. How're you going to do your hair?"
"In a pair of buns, like this..." Over in the corner, Katherine sat in a ball, still not completely recovered from lunch. Samantha went over to her and sat down next to her.
"You can't let what Ali said get to you. You know?" Kathy nodded, but buried her face farther into her arms. Sam sighed. "Look, she's not even here. Let's get you ready so you can knock my brother's socks off, okay?"
"Okay..." Katherine's dress was a ruffly, knee-length red dress with sections cut out of the sides and off the shoulder long sleeves, paired with cobalt heels and a pair of sapphire earrings. Once in her dress, Sam zipped her up and turned her to the mirror.
"Gorgeous! Andro'll love it. Now for your hair... Dalia?" From across the room, the brunette snapped her fingers and Katherine's hair arranged itself into bouncing waves. "Thanks, Dali!"
Katherine spun around and examined herself. I look... beautiful.
"All right. I'm done playing fairy godmother for you, it's my turn. According to my mother, I need to at least look for a consort tonight." Sam clapped her hands, and a form-fitting, pale pink and yellow silk, swirly patterned, mid-thigh length dress appeared on her frame, along with a pair of nude-colored heels. Another clap and her hair was pulled into a low chignon with an pale orange ribbon. "Done. What do you think?" The other girls applauded and told her how great she looked.
Surveying the room, she saw that, with the exception of Summer, who was just finishing up her makeup, the other girls were ready. "All right! Let's get moving to that dance, babes!"
On the Dance Floor
Down at the dance, the Alfea fairies and the Cloudtower witches had turned out dressed to the nines; although, in Dalia's opinion, "Those outfits are more like underwear than actual clothes." Summer had staked out a small table by the window, and she, Leo, and Dalia sat there like wallflowers while Sam worked the crowd and Katherine danced- with Andro. Ali hadn't yet arrived with her other friends, but Dalia kept an eye out; no way was she going to let the blonde mess with Katherine and Andro.
"So... see any cute guys yet?" Summer asked. She was lazily stirring her drink and surveying the crowd.
"I see lots of cute blokes... but none are single as of yet." Dalia sighed. "Any sign of our troublemaking blonde friend?"
"No, not yet."
Across the ballroom, Katherine dance slowly with Andro, answering his questions about Alfea with one word answers.
"Kath... what's wrong?" She shook her head.
"N-nothing. Nothing at all."
"Are you sure?" He squeezed her waist gently, causing her to blush furiously. Andro chuckled. "I've known you forever, Kathy. You're never this quiet."
"I'm fine... Just not used to dancing in these shoes, that's all."
"In that case..." Andro took her hand and let her over to a window. "Let's look at this beautiful view."
"Okay..." He slipped his arm around her shoulders, and she nestled into his side, blushing hard but very happy. "Let's do that."
Back at the girl's table, Samantha had returned and was casually sipping a virgin margarita when she noticed a group of four girls enter with some snappily dressed guys; one was a pale blonde on the arm of a tall, dark and handsome guy in an all-black suit. Checking to make sure the other girls weren't looking, she slipped over to Ali and her apparent beau.
"Hey, Ali...who's this?" Ali, surprised that Sam was speaking to her, introduced her to the "Andy" from the text message conversation- a musician from the Redfountain band Omega's Fallen, and a Vakylrie vampire.
"Nice to meet you, Andy." Sam shook his hand. "Are you and Ali..."
"Dating? Yes. We have been for quite a while." He smiled down at Ali, who looked a little on edge at Sam meeting her boyfriend. "Are you one of Ali's dormmates?"
"Yes, I'm Samantha." He returned her sentiments with a quick "Nice to meet you too." and the couple headed for the dance floor. Samantha watched them go, mentally noting never to mention to the others that Ali had a boyfriend, sensing she wanted to keep it secret after her rant against boyfriends earlier that day.
Looking beyond them, she noticed her brother and Samantha by the windows, sharing a quiet moment over the lake. Sam smiled, then went back to her seat.
All in all? This dance was a total success.
Chapter 3: Nature Studies
"So, girls!" Flora said, walking by every student of her class, "Are we all clear on what we have to do? Remember, you must cross the swamp and collect a sample from it, go into the forest and find THREE different types of branches from three different trees and then make your way back here and collect any other nature sample you want. And another thing. No magic is to be used."
"Clear, Miss Flora!" the class said, and got themselves organized into their groups. All the girls from Dorm 2A grouped up together, and pulled on their gloves and boots for the adventure.
"Clear, Miss Mom!" Dali giggled quietly. Her mother shot her a look, quieting her immediately. Once Flora stopped talking and began digging in her bag, the girls began discussing methods of completing the assignment.
"RIGHT!" Liona said. "So we will all go across the swamp one by one, and then we all collect a little bit of the gloop and then put it into one big container, fair?"
"Uh... I may be the nature fairy, but I'm not too thrilled about swamps and mud. Can we skip the swamp, please?" Dalia asked, blushing. Ali rolled her eyes at the clean-freak fairy, then realized just how disgusting mud was.
"We haven't got any other choice." Ali told her, rubbing her white-blonde locks, not too thrilled about the dirt potential herself.
"And besides, we've all got these gloves on, hmm?" Summer added, showing the girls her hands. "We'll be fine, right?"
"No, Dalia's right. Nobody really wants to dig up gloop, plus, the swamp water is poisonous. If we pick it up, we'll be frozen for life, regardless of gloves." Katherine said.
"That's why I'm giving you these little mugs." Flora butted in, handing out 6 cups to the girls. Dalia, Katherine, and Ali breathed sighs of relief. Liona, Samantha and Summer took them happily as well- the swamp mud wasn't horribly appealing to the rest of them despite their affirmations to the contrary. Thanking their teacher, they headed for the edge of the swamp. Dalia and Katherine turned their noses up, but Ali went right for it, dipping her mug in and screwing the cap on.
"Looks like someone got over their fear of dirt." Summer observed. Ali shook her head.
"When you have five sisters, you get over squeamishness fast, especially when they won't touch the dead bird outside their window." She turned to the rest of the group. "Now it's your turn. Do ya want an A or not?"
After each girl filled their mug with the swamp water, they all headed over to a small grove of trees near the water's edge. To the non-nature-savvy in the group, the trees all looked the same.
"Darn! How are we going to find three different trees in a grove full of these? They all look the same!" complained Ali. Dalia shook her head, and squished across the grove to a slender, bendy tree. Holding up a limp branch, she explained the differences between this, the Warvan Willow, and another tree right next to it, the Plunetaen Lightning Oak.
"All right. Sam, could you snap some twigs off this oak... and I'll get some from the willow. Katherine, could you... Katherine!" Across the swamp, Kathy was staring off into the distant horizon. "Never mind. Ali, could you climb up that Fe'lisian Maple and get a sample?"
Ali was just swinging herself up the maple when she heard screams from the ground below. Sam and Summer were running from a trio of snake-like monsters towards the base of a towering, fluffy white tree. What is going on down there? What are those?
Down on the ground, Dalia whirled around at the screams to see the two blondes attempting to climb a Nightopian Dreaming Cherry Tree. "Guys! Stop! It's dangerous!" Not heeding her warning, Summer and Sam managed to reach the first branch and escape from the Salazian Swampests. With no one left to chase, the Swampests turned on Dalia and Katherine, who was still absentmindedly staring off into the distance. "Someone! HELP!"
She squeezed her eyes shut, waiting for the first bites, when a soothing sensation swept over her. "It's all right, dearie. There's only love in their hearts now." Dalia opened her eyes to see a small, rosy pink pixie hovering over the Swampests.
"Amore!" Samantha slipped down from the cherry tree to greet her mother's bonded pixie, as well as introduce her to the rest of the girls. Ali had managed to retrieve a maple branch, Liona had shaken Katherine out of her daze and Summer was yawning sleepily. "So, what are you doing here?"
"Just visiting, Samantha. How are you?" Samantha yawned in response. "Maybe you'd better head back up to Alfea... you seem tired."
"That's because she and Summer climbed into a Nightopian Dreaming Cherry Tree. The pollen off their blossoms causes sleep." Flora emerged from a stand of trees behind them with her own pixie, Chatta. "And you're right, Amore. They both need to head back up to Alfea, just like you, Ali. That cut on your arm looks awful." Ali looked down at her arm; there was indeed a gash on her arm, likely from the maple tree. All the girls turned to go back up to the school, but Flora realized she'd forgotten something. "Wait! Let me see what you have." Dalia handed her the three branches and multiple cups of goop they had collected. "All right... three branches... six cups of swamp mud... Good job, girls. As all around."
In the Alfea infirmary, Summer and Samantha sat curled up on a couch, trying not to fall asleep while they waited for Ali to get healed. Dalia flipped through a magazine on plant pots, Liona sketched on a napkin and Katherine stared out the window. Flora peeked in the door, and seeing they weren't busy, slipped inside and whispered something to Dalia. Her daughter nodded, then gasped, catching Liona's attention. Flora hugged Dalia, then handed her a small necklace with a gleaming green stone. When the nurse came back out with Ali, Flora excused herself and headed back up to her room.
"You okay, Ali?" Liona asked, standing to help her friend balance. Still on painkillers, the blonde nodded.
"I'll be fine. But can we go back to our rooms now? I could use some sleep." She yawned. Looking over at the other two blondes, Dalia agreed.
"You're not the only one. Let's get going."
Back in the Dorm
Having sent all three blonde roommates to their respective rooms, the other girls decided to start cleaning up. Despite having been in the room only a few weeks, they'd caused a huge mess. Liona's art supplies lay scattered on a small table by the huge bay window; Dalia's plants sat on the window sill. Katherine and Samantha's clothes lay all over the couch nearest their room, as well as the floor.
Except for small exchanges about whose items were whose, the dormmates cleaned in companiable silence. "Whose red dress is this?" Dalia asked, holding up a small red halter dress. Across the room, Katherine looked up.
"Mine. I thought about wearing it today, until I found out what we were doing in Nature Studies."
Before long, the suite was once again spotless and the three friends collapsed on the couch. It was then Katherine noticed the bright emerald necklace Dalia wore. "What a pretty necklace! Where'd you get it?"
Dalia fingered it a bit before replying. "It's a necklace from my realm. But it's not just pretty; it holds the power over the tree that supports my family's home back on Linphea. You see, each family grows a tree that is the backbone of the home. Each family has a small item tied to the tree that is passed down through the generations. This one belongs to my family, and has since Linphea was just a small cluster of fairy families."
Kathy and Liona oohed and aahed over the tale and the beautiful necklace, asking questions until the bell rang for dinner.
Chapter 4: Pixie Bonding
One weekend a few weeks after the near disaster in nature studies, the girls were out in Magix City during their free time. Samantha, in one of her rare, mother-like moments, had dragged them all to the mall first. She had then insisted upon trying on dozens of dresses and modeling them for Katherine and Dalia- Liona, Summer, and Ali had bolted as soon as they reached the front doors of the mall. They now sat in the food court, munching on chili cheese fries and sipping sodas, waiting for the other girls to finish.
Once Sam had gotten tired of trying on clothes, the three girls headed for the food court, which was on the top of the Magix City mall. They ordered more fries and sat their for a while, discussing what had happened at school, what girl had gotten her potions mixed up so the lab blew up, and what homework they had left.
Summer was looking out over the woods of Magix Forest when she saw flashes of light in the distance- deep in the forest. "Hey, guys, come look at this- hey, oof!" Her friends had crushed all around her, eager to see what was going on that had made Summer speak- she was the quietest of the group by far.
"Looks like... I don't know. Who's up for going to check it out?" Sam looked around at the group of girls. Ali and Liona's hands shot straight up; Dalia and Summer were a bit more hesitant, and Katherine didn't respond at all, just kept watching the light flashes.
"So it's settled. Magix Forest, here we come!"
Deep in the Woods
"How much farther?" Sam whined. "You're ruining my pedicure!" The girls were currently trudging through the woods towards the source of the lights. Ali and Liona headed up the group, with Summer close behind; Dalia struggled to keep up with their pace. Katherine meandered behind the rest, looking around at the forest. Her friend shot her a look. "Kathy! Hurry up!"
"Coming..." Katherine jogged a bit and joined Sam. Summer had forged ahead, and called out to the others- she had found the light source.
"Guys, come here! I found the lights!" Her group ran to join her, and peeked through the trees towards a miniature village, seemingly populated by... pixies? It was hard to tell- the residents were scrambling to get away from a trio of familiar witches. The sight of the witches made Katherine jolt to attention and take charge.
"All right girls! Let's defend the pixies!" Ali shot her a dark look- she didn't think it fair that the redhead suddenly got to take charge. Nevertheless, she transformed with everyone else and rushed to protect the village.
Defending the Village
Bolt and Freeze were battering the village with attacks, while Illusion used her hypnotic powers to keep the pixies form leaving. She was drawing the village leader, Ninfea, in to extract information when she was hit with a powerful Solarian Sunbeam from Samantha. Ninfea was able to break free and fly away from Illusion's eyes, leaving Samantha and Dalia to confront the angry psychic witch.
"You thought you could get away with attacking the pixies? You thought wrong!" Katherine declared, and aimed a heavy stream of flames at Freeze, nearly setting her on fire. Liona backed her up with a strong electric charge, deflecting Bolt's thunderbolts.
"Well, well, well. We meet again, Katherine! My mother was right; You truly are your mother's daughter!" Kathy narrowed her eyes, confused. How did this witch know who her mother was? How did the witch's mother know?
"Who are you? How do you know my mother?" she demanded. Freeze chuckled.
"My mother is Icy, of the Trix! She battled your mother as a student, just as you are battling me now. History does repeat itself..." A shattering noise sounded behind her; Ali was breaking down the ice on all the village buildings. Seeing she was losing the battle, Freeze called her coven sisters and with one last, desperate attack, they teleported out.
Sensing the witches wouldn't be returning any time soon, the girls began to clean up the little village. Slowly, pixies began to return and help them restore their home. Samantha brightened the sun rays that fell over them, melting the massive snow drifts; Ali assisted her efforts by shattering and dissipating the icicles that hung from the trees and lampposts. Summer, Katherine and Liona guarded the edges of the village and watched over the pixies as they came back. Dalia used her plant magic to regrow the beaten-up gardens and trees around the town.
Dalia had made her way to the middle of the village and was restoring a beautiful little garden, full of orchids and wild roses, when she saw a big pair of violet eyes staring at her out of a bush. "Hello?" The eyes shrank back into the shadows. "It's okay, little one. I'm here to help you. Is this your garden?"
A tiny voice squeaked, "Yes, it's mine," but the owner of the voice didn't emerge. Dalia pursed her lips, and tried another tack.
"Would you like to help me fix it?"
".... I guess." The huge eyes belonged to a bitty pixie with a chic bob of dark hair, an elegant sheath dress, and a pair of sandals. She came a little closer to Dalia and began to wave a small wand over some withered roses, bringing them back to life. "My name is Blossom. What's yours?"
Dali smiled. "I'm Dalia, fairy of plants."
Over by a larger snowdrift, Sam was directing her sunbeams at it when she saw a pair of pixies peeking around the corner. She pushed the beams at the drift and approached the girls. "Can I help you?" One shrank back, pulling on her friend, but she went right up to Sam.
"I'm Nissa! And this is Ilana! It's very nice to meet you." Ilana, the shy one, tugged on Nissa's arm.
"You know it's not wise to talk to strangers, Nissa!" Sam shook her head.
"I'm not stranger. I helped save this place and I'm helping fix it. How more familiar could I be?" Nissa nodded enthusiastically and yanked Ilana forward, into the center of the street.
"Is there anything we can do to help.. Sorry, what's your name?" Ilana rolled her eyes; Nissa was always doing this.
"I'm Sam. And yeah, you can help me straighten this house up." Nissa cheered, and she Ilana set straight to work.
Summer was watching for any threats by the village border when she noticed a pixie wandering around in circles, looking very confused and disoriented. "Excuse me? Are you all right?"
"Oh, yeah, I'm fine... just... where am I?" Summer giggled. This pixie was confused and so cute. Summer could see her sticking with her for a long time. Could she maybe... just maybe... be her pixie?
"You're on the outskirts of Pixie Village. May I take you back there?" The pixie nodded, and on the way back Summer learned her name was Kristen, and her powers centered around unorganization. Too cute.
Back in the village, Ali had finished ridding the roofs and trees of icicles and was lounging on a rock when a loud 'POP!' sounded behind her, making her jump into the air and hover for a moment before she heard the laughter from behind the rock. Upon closer inspection, she found a pixie rolling around on the ground in the throes of belly-ripping laughter. "What the...?"
"You... you shoulda... AHAHA!" Ali sighed, and picked her up off the ground. The pixie resisted and struggled for a bit before starting to laugh again. Ali noticed she had a deep Irish brogue and a shamrock on her shirt.
"Who are you?" Laughing too hard to breathe, the pixie gasped and replied her name was Ruby. "Well, I bet I can guess what YOU'RE the pixie of."
Katherine had long since abandoned her post at the front- it was clear the witches weren't returning- and she had found Samantha playing with a pair of pixies. She had introduced them as Nissa and Ilana, and Ilana had immediately taken to the fire fairy. Kathy had sat down with them and they continued playing and talking until Dalia called them to go.
At the entrance, Liona was guiding pixies in when one of them stopped and started staring at her. Leo didn't notice until she was about to leave, and all the other pixies were gone, when the little pixie followed her. She was dressed in a little pink dress with a large rosette on it, and her hair was in a side pony. "Hi there. What's your name?"
"I'm Emily. I'm the Pixie of Emotions." Emily's voice was quiet and low-pitched for a pixie. She fluttered up to Liona's shoulder and nestled into it. "I'm your bonded pixie. I can feel it."
Liona smiled. "I think I can too."
Back at the Dorms
In their living room, the six girls sat with their new bonded pixies. Katherine had bonded with Ilana, the Pixie of Wisdom; Samantha with Nissa, the Pixie of Audacity; Dalia with Blossom, the Pixie of Flowers. Across the room Liona had bonded with Emily, the Pixie of Emotions; her roommate Ali with Ruby, the Pixie of Mischief. Summer had bonded with Kristen, the Pixie of Unorganization. All the girls were exhausted from the fight, but happy with the way the day had ended. After all, it wasn't every day they got bonded pixies.

Chapter 5: Freeze, Katherine and the Warvan necklace
In the dormitory
It was a warm, muggy afternoon in the dorms, and classes were over for the day. Girls wandered from room to room, the heat making them lethargic, except for the solar-powered and heat-powered fairies- they were more energetic than usual, and that only served to irritate the other girls. Ali had grown up on a realm where it was always thirty degrees below freezing- she could handle the warmth, but she hated every minute of it. After she'd nearly frozen Summer's head off, she had gone to her room and hadn't emerged since. Liona was lazing on the couch next to Summer, who was immersing herself in a class book. Dalia herself had grown up on a humid realm, and was in the middle of choosing a plant pot for a new sprout. Samantha had bounced in after her spinning class and was watching her, and offering style advice. "Which do you think, Sam? Bubblegum pink or pale coral?"
"Hmm... well, bubblegum pink is always a fallback color, but next to the curtains... pale coral!" Dalia nodded, and planted the new orchid bush. Just as she was setting the pot down, Katherine banged in the front door.
"Enough about plant pots, girls!" Katherine squealed, "ANDRO WANTS TO GO OUT ON A DATE!" Liona and Summer jumped up and they all proceeded to hug, squealing and jumping around excitedly as they did so. Samantha, of course, wanted the details.
"Did he ask you in person? How did he ask you? WHAT DID HE SAY?" Kathy shoved her phone into her best friend's hands. Sam skimmed the message, and started squealing again.
"You know what this means... Fashion Time!"
Choosing a Dress
"What about... this one?" Liona held up a sleek, dusty rose sheath dress. "It'd be so cute!" Katherine nodded, and went to go put it on. While she was changing, the other girls pulled out accessories and their makeup. When she came back out, Sam shoved her down in a chair, where she proceeded to straighten her friend's hair.
Liona, in charge of makeup, studied Kathy for a minute before starting on her face. With a few minutes, and a lot of magic, the redhead's hair was perfectly straight and her natural beauty was accented with flawless makeup.
"Done!" they cheered. "Now, let's get you to your date."
Down with Andro
Andro was meeting Katherine at the Alfea gates so they could take the bus into the city. Katherine was shaking like a leaf as they walked down the stairs to the common area. Right before they walked outside, Sam grabbed her and shook her. "Look, babe, you don't need to nervous. My brother adores you and you adore him. All you have to do is be yourself! Now GO!" She shoved her out the doors and towards the gates, where Andro stood waiting. When he saw Katherine, he smiled, and came to greet her; as he hugged her he noticed his sister standing with some other girls in the shadows.
"Hi, Sam! Thanks!" Laughter echoed from behind the column she hid behind.
"Anytime, Andro! Have her back by eleven!"
Sam, Dali, Leo and Summer had fallen asleep on the couches in the living room, waiting for Katherine to return the night before. Ali walked out of her dorm at six a.m., stretching and going to make breakfast before classes, and found the four of them curled up, snoring. She sighed, and headed to the kitchen, where she proceeded to bang around until she was done with the bacon and eggs. When the other girls still didn't wake up, she ate, cleaned up her dishes, and went to go get dressed.
Ten minutes later, they still weren't awake. "Blizzard, c'mere." The fluffy white ghosthound trotted over, and Ali told her to bark until they were all up while she went to go wake up Katherine. Blizzard howled and yelped until she'd shocked all the girls awake. As they were waking up and looking around, Aliana walked out of Katherine and Sam's room, confused. "Have you guys seen Katherine? I went in there to wake her up, but she's not in there." Sam looked at Liona, who looked at Dali, who looked at Summer. Sam then looked over at Nissa.
"Nissa, gather the pixies. We're gonna go find Katherine."
The girls searched the halls, other dorms, and ended up back at the breakfast hall. Katherine was nowhere to be found. Samantha sighed, and dug her phone out of her purse. "I'm gonna go call my brother. I'll be right back."
Dalia collapsed against the wall, and Summer sat down next to her and put her arm around her. "We'll find her, don't worry." Standing near them, Liona was filling Ali in on the events of last night.
"So... she went out with Andro and never came back? That could just mean... yeah, I dunno. Are we gonna go look for her?"
"After classes, we are." Liona looked over to where Samantha was talking with Andro, and becoming exceedingly more agitated and animated as the conversation went on. "Uh-oh. I wonder what's going on?"
"Turns out Andro never went out with Kathy last night. He was in DETENTION." A group gasp led to stares from the nearby table. "Which means that guy last night? Was someone else in disguise. We need to go, now. Ali?"
"Can you take charge here? I'm gonna go get Andro; he wants to help look for Katherine." Ali nodded, and as Sam was bolting out of the hall, she marshaled all of the girls and they left for the common area, ready to begin their search.
Outside, the four girls snuck past a couple of chatting teachers and out the gates. A bus to Magix City sat waiting for them, and they jumped on before the teachers noticed. "Magix City, please!" Summer told the driver.
Over in a bench seat, Ali, Leo and Dali pored over a map of Magix. "All right. Where were they supposed to go on their date last night?" Dalia tried to remember; it had been an up-scale sounding place... The Ivy!
"All right, that's over here... right on the edge of Magix. Great. Once we get there, we'll have to transform and fly, as fast as we can." The other girls nodded, then almost fell over as the bus pulled to a stop outside the station. "Let's go!"
"Magic Winx TRANSFORM!" Hovering on the platform in their fairy forms, and attracting a lot of stares, Ali studied the map again. "Looks like we go... north!"
Samantha had transformed and located Andro's dorm room. She hovered outside his window, checking to make sure there was no one else around before she banged loudly. Andro jolted and dropped a can of soda, looking around wildly, then seeing his little sister outside the window. He was dressed in sweats and a tshirt, having just gotten back from breakfast and morning classes. "Have you found her yet?"
"Nope. That's why I'm here. Get dressed, you're coming with me to find her." Andro nodded, starting to pull of his shirt, then realized Sam was still hovering.
"Go away while I change!"
Katherine or the Necklace?
Out at the Ivy, the girls found a tall garden instead of a classy restaurant. "This hasn't been here long." Liona told them. "The electrical pulses... from the plants. They're new." Dalia agreed with her; she'd gotten the same impression from the vines.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't the little fairies." A willowy witch stepped out from behind a tall bush. Coming forward, into the faint overhead light, the girls realized it was Freeze, the witch from the Pixie's Village. Just behind her, Summer spotted Katherine, tied and beaten up on the floor. Freeze caught her gaze, and cackled.
"You're not walking out of here with her. Not unless-" Before she could state her demands, Samantha and Andro burst in behind them, Andro with his sword at the ready. "Backup? How pathetic." She turned and snapped her fingers; Katherine became encased in a block of ice.
"No!" Andro rushed forward to attack Freeze; she gave him a similar treatment to Katherine, only this time leaving his head free so he could watch the ensuing fight. Dalia dropped to her knees and began to mutter an ancient encantation; Summer jumped in front of her, hoping to give her some time to complete it- in vain, as their opponent flash froze all the vines in the room, as well as Dalia's hands to the floor. Ali and Liona hurled a powerful Frozen Bolt at Freeze, knocking her back against the wall. Angered now, Freeze lashed out with an unescapable Lethal Snow Storm. The girls were thrown around in the cold winds, Ali the only one who wasn't in danger of freezing to death. She attempted to quell the storms, but Freeze struck her down with an Ice Saber. Her friends down for the count, Sam called out to the witch. "What do you want? We'll give you anything!"
"Anything?" Freeze waved her hand; the winds stopped, and Liona, and Summer fell to the floor. "Well, now we're getting somewhere." She stalked over to where Dalia knelt trapped. "You're a Linphean, aren't you?" Dalia, eyes wide with fear, nodded. "I want your family power necklace. If you refuse me, your friends die." Dalia shook her head.
"I can't! If I give it to you..." Freeze snorted in amusement. "You know what will happen, don't you?"
"Of course. That's precisely why I want it."
"Just give it to her, Dali!" Sam yelled from across the room. "You can't let Kathy die!" Dalia gulped. My family necklace... I can't... but I can't let Kathy die. Lowering her head, she mumbled her agreement. When Freeze freed her hands, she pulled the precious necklace from around her neck... and handed it to the witch. Cackling, she disappeared in a flurry of crystals.
Over by the wall, Ali was freeing Andro; Samantha was with Kathy, already loose from her bindings. Summer and Liona were warming up over by the door, using the warm spring air to thaw their hands. Looking around, she saw the devastation, and how close Kathy had come to dying; despite knowing she had done the right thing, Dalia also knew she'd never get her necklace back- and began to cry.
Next Day at Lunch
Having been informed of the previous day's events, Faragonda had allowed the girls to go into Magix for the day and meet with Andro for lunch. "You girls deserve a day off after what happened. Poor things." Dalia was still sniffling; her mother had been furious, then started crying with her daughter. Kathy felt bad that the girl had had to give up her necklace, but when she'd tried to apologize Dalia had pushed her away. The rest of the group was quiet, too- from exhaustion and guilt that they hadn't been able to stop Freeze from getting away with the necklace. Even Ali had sat with Dalia at one point, soothing her during one of the worse crying jags.
Now the girls sat at an open air restaurant in the heart of the city, waiting for Andro to show up. He'd phoned earlier, saying he was bringing along a couple of friends. Around twelve, he entered the courtyard with a tall, slender dark-haired guy and a somewhat shorter, ginger haired specialist. He introduced them as Alessandro and Noel. Alessandro sat on the left of Liona, who sat up a little straighter and flushed a bit; Noel settled in next to Summer, currently immersed in a large tome about ancient spells. "Sorry we're late, guys. Helia gave us a hard time about leaving after what happened last night." At the mention of her father's name and the events of the previous evening, Dalia burst into fresh tears, leaving only Ali to try and calm her down. When she wouldn't stop, Ali excused them and took her inside to the restroom, in an attempt to keep her from making a scene.
Andro watched them leave with pity in his eyes; sighing, he started a quiet conversation with his sister and Katherine. It was a quiet lunch, each of the little groups in their own world. All too soon the lunch was over, and the students headed back to their respective schools, Liona and Summer the only happy ones in the group- they'd gotten Alessandro and Noel's phone numbers. They bounced back inside the school, ahead of their slightly depressed friends. Watching Dalia sob her way back upstairs, Katherine swore she would get her friend's necklace back. That witch will NOT get away with this.

Chapter 6: Reclaiming a power
"Shh!" Kathy waved at the girls behind her, trying to calm their harsh whispers. "We need to be quiet!" Dalia nudged Summer, who collapsed into giggles, leaving Liona and Ali to back Katherine up as they slipped in the back door of Cloud Tower.
"We get in, we get the necklace, we get out. Got it?" Kathy demanded, prompting an eye roll from her blonde backup.
"We got it, we got it. I'm not as inept as you are, Miss I-Can't-Change-My-Hair-Color." Ali quipped back, and slid in front of Katherine to check the hallway. "All clear. According to the map we found, the dorms are up these stairs. Freeze's is the first on the right."
A nervous tip toe up the stairs found them in the doorway of a freezing cold room. By this point, Summer and Dalia had caught up, only to balk at the threshold, Dalia claiming she couldn't go any further or she'd freeze to death. Katherine made a similar complaint, leaving Ali and Liona to slip inside and search for Dalia's necklace.
"It's not here!" Ali whispered frantically, ruffling through a stack of papers and books. "What could she have done with it?"
Chapter 7: Grounded
By the following morning, the story of what happened at Cloud Tower, and to the girls, had traveled like a wild fire. Few seemed sympathetic, others found this amusing, others found it disgraceful.
"I cannot believe how quickly the story has spread." said Liona
"I don't know what's worse." said Aliana in a stressed voice, "The punishment we're getting, or people asking us what Cloud Tower was like."
"Hey girls!" said Aimee, "Sorry about losing your powers. But why didn't you tell me you were breaking into Cloud Tower? That would've been a blast."
"Go away, Aimee." said Aliana in an angry voice.
"Okay, okay." Aimee replied walking away.
"You don't have to be rude." said Dalia.
"I can't help it."
"There there." said Summer putting a hand on Ali's shoulder
"Letter for Katherine Peters." said Livy appearing next to the girls
"Thank you Livy." said Katherine taking the letter from livy
"Any time. Though I recommend you open it right away." He flew off
"Oh no!" Katherine said with a horrified look
"Look everyone." said Oleo "Peters has got herself a howler." a few people laughed
"Go on Kathy." said Samantha sympathetically "It might be worse if you face your mother and she finds out you didn't open it."
"You're right." said Katherine in a squeaky voice
"What's a howler?" Liona asked
"You'll find out." said Dalia.
When Katherine opened it, she dropped it as it folded into a mouth and Bloom's voice came out magnified a hundred times.
"KATHERINE PETERS!" the howler shouted "HOW DARE YOU BREAK INTO CLOUD TOWER! I AM ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED! WHEN I RECEIVED FARAGONDA'S MESSAGE LAST NIGHT, GRANDPA ORITEL AND GRANDMA MIRIAM THOUGHT I WOULD DIE OF SHAME! WHAT DISGUSTS ME EVEN MORE, IS THAT YOU LED OTHER STUDENTS INTO BREAKING INTO CLOUD TOWER AS WELL! YOU COULD'VE BEEN HURT OR WORSE! I FULLY SUPPORT FARAGONDA'S DECISION TO SUSPEND YOUR POWERS, AND I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN SURPRISED IF SHE EXPELLED YOU! YOUR FATHER AND I DID NOT BRING YOU UP TO BEHAVE LIKE THIS! IF YOU PUT ANOTHER TOE OUT OF LINE, WE WILL BRING YOU STRAIGHT HOME! AND TELL SAMANTHA THAT HER PARENTS WILL BE ALONG LATER TO HAVE A WORD WITH HER!
When the howler had finished, it burst into flames and crumbled up.
"That was horrible." said Summer
"I'll say." said Liona
"I lost my appetite." said Katherine pushing her plate away
"So have I." said Samantha
"And your parents are coming later." said Dalia "That's not going to be good."
"Between you and me, I'd rather have a howler."
"It could've been worse." said Aliana and the girls just stared "Never mind."
A while later in the dorm
"I'm worried about Sam." said Summer, "She's been in Ms. F's office for a long time."
"And they usually go badly." said Liona, sighing.
"Hey girls." said Samantha walking in.
"Sam!" they chorused.
"How did it go?" Aliana asked, propping her head up with her hand.
"Brutal." said Samantha, "Two weeks on my watch. This is no way to behave in Alfea young lady. I have no desire to repeat this experience anytime soon."
"I can't imagine what my parents are going to say to me the next time I see them." said Katherine, groaning.
"In any case, we better get down to Grizelda's office." said Liona checking her watch, "We start our detention tonight."
A few minutes later
"Your detention will last until every spot in the school has been cleaned." said Grizelda, "And remember, no magic is to be used."
"How can we use magic if we don't have our powers?" Aliana asked.
"Don't get smart with me, miss Aliana. And while you six are cleaning, the rest of the school and staff will be at that concert in magix. Since you can't go, maybe one of your classmates will pick you up a T-shirt."
Summer hummed as she mopped up the floor to the 5th room in Alfea - the hall.
"Are you guys gonna help or what?" Samantha sighed, dropping her broom.
"I did nothing wrong!" Liona said, lying on the floor, sketching. "So I won't do any work."
"Same as 'her." Aliana agreed.
"I am not going to do this all on my own!" Dalia said, sitting down.
"Well, we can't just give in now, can we? Or this detention will last forever!" shouted Katherine, breaking the silence.
"Yeah, we gotta find a way to have fun while doing this work." Samantha agreed.
A smile flashed across Liona's tanned face. "And I got the perfect way to do it."
A few beeps from her mobile phone were heard as the other girls continued to work.
"Andro!" Katherine called, running up to her beloved boyfriend, "I'm so happy you could be here!"
"Your friend Liona called us." Andro smiled, "She said you needed help with something."
"Oh, it's urgent!" Katherine giggled, pulling Andro towards the school's door.
"Hi, Dalia." Harry said, with a charming smile, "How are you on this beautiful evening?"
"Fine." Dalia blushed, taking Harry's hand, "And I'm even better now that you're here!"
"Come on, Kath. Let's go inside!" Andro suggested, taking Katherine's hand.
"Let's go, sunshine." Harry agreed, him and Dalia running up the stairs.
"Hey, Ali." Andy said, rubbing his arm shyly. "Err, what's up?"
"Oh, just the usual." Ali's face lit up as Andy appeared, "We need the help of somebody experienced. Like you."
"What exactly do you need help with?" Andy asked, sitting next to Ali on the log.
"I'll tell you when we get inside." Aliana replied, standing up and pushing Andy up the steps.
"Guess who!" said Alessandro, Liona's boyfriend, standing behind her. "Did you miss me, Li-Li?"
"Quit it with the nicknames!" Liona laughed, "And yes, I did miss you. A bit!"
Alessandro faked a sad face. "That's disappointing."
"Get in there!" Liona chuckled playfully.
"They all look so happy..." sighed Summer. "I wish I had someone. Oh well..."
"Bah, who cares?" Samantha replied, "At least we got each other."
"Yes!" Summer agreed. "Shall we go?"
"Last one up's a witchy witch!" Samantha giggled, racing up the steps.
"WAIT FOR ME!" Summer shouted, following her.
And for the girls, the fun began.
"Okay, so this is our situation..." Dalia explained, "I exchanged my Linphean necklace for Katherine's life."
"Good decision." Andro intruded.
"Tut-tut-tut!" Dali replied, hiding a smile. "No interruptions if you please. Liona..."
"And we decided to break into Cloud Tower, you know, the school for witches? Oh yeah, we decided to break into Cloud Tower to get Babi Ariel's necklace back. The witches had held Katherine captive, remember?" Liona continued.
"And they blackmailed Dalia into giving them the necklace, right?" Harry guessed.
"Exactly." smiled Liona. "Go on then, Sum."
"That night we sneaked out of the underground tunnels connecting the three schools. This weird thing happened where it suddenly became darker and a lot colder. Dalia found a candle and lead the way to Cloud Tower, those many hours were torture." Summer told them.
"It could have been a battle ghost." Alessandro said, after a few moments.
"A what?" Aliana asked, confused.
"A battle ghost. It's kind of a ghost of how everyone was feeling in a past battle; cold and blind." Alessandro explained.
"And what is a battle that took place in the underground tunnels?" he asked.
"THE BATTLE OF THE 3 SCHOOLS OF MAGIX!" the girls chorused.
"You know, the one where our moms were fighting the Trix?" Katherine told the boys.
"My turn." Samantha butted in, "We finally found Cloud Tower. We split up and searched the place thoroughly but there was no trace of Dalia's necklace. Not even in the dorms."
"So where DID you find it?" Andy asked, suddenly interested.
"We met back in the Main Hall." Samantha continued, "And what we saw was not pleasant. One of the witches, Bolt, had us cornered."
"Okay, I'll carry this thing on, ma ladies." Aliana smiled, "We all fought for a long, tiring time. And finally, Summer wiped her out for good. It was only a knock out though. Katherine got the necklace and we returned to the tunnels. That's where it all went wrong."
"Miss Grizelda caught us and gave us detention." Katherine continued, sadly, "And Faragonda removed our powers from us. My mom sent me a howler and we were in for it in detention. The whole of the school gets to go to this concert except us."
"Gee, that musta been horrible." Andro groaned. "But what did you have to do instead?"
"Clean the entire school." Dalia said.
"THAT'S WHERE YOU COME IN!" they all chorused.
"A few second thoughts..." Harry groaned.
"You can do it with me, sugar!" Dalia said, passing him an identical broom to hers.
"HOP TO IT!" Katherine ordered.
Samantha hit the music and they all started to clean.
After cleaning the school, the girls took the guys to their dorm to have some real fun.
"Alright!" said Liona turning on some music, "This is where the real fun begins."
"With the boring stuff done, lets rock out." said Samantha while moving to the rhythm.
"I'm not sure mom and dad will approve of this, sis." said Andro, concerned.
"Don't get brotherly on me tonight. Tonight, it's the ten of us having fun."
"Sam's right." said Dalia grabbing Harry, "Let's let lose."
For about fifteen minutes, the girls and guys had the time of their lives, when all of the sudden they heard a loud rumbling.
"What was that?" Summer asked, scared.
"Sounded like a quake." said Alessandro with Liona holding his arm.
"On Magix? Not likely." said Katherine,
"Let's get outside and find out what it was." said Aliana, bravely.
A few corridors down, the group stopped in their tracks when they noticed a large hole in the wall.
"What could've done this?" Summer asked, upset.
"Whatever it was, it's gotta've been pretty huge." said Andy, as the boys took out their swords.
"And I think I know what 'IT' was." said Dalia in a scared voice.
"Please enlighten us." said Liona, jokingly.
"Just turn around."
They swiftly swooped their heads around. And behind them was an enormous three-headed dog.
"A Cerberus!" Alessandro shouted.
"Girls, stay behind us." said Andro, protectively.
"It will do you no good." said Freeze behind them.
"Oh great. These clowns." said Aliana.
"Who you calling clowns?" Illusion asked in rage.
"Don't answer that." said Bolt charging up an attack, "You all aren't gonna be around much longer."
"Come and get us witches." Katherine called as the girls ran down a corridor.
"Girls, wait!" Haydin called after them.
"Katherine, I hope you've got an idea or we're dead meat!" said Dalia, nervously.
"I'm working on it." said Katherine.
"That's encouraging." replied Summer, sarcastically.
"I've got something. The Magical Reality Chamber is this way."
"I see what you're getting at." said Liona,
Within moments, the girls lured the witches to the Magical Reality Chamber. While Katherine had Liona hide and stand ready, the other girls went into the chamber.
"Now we got you where we want you." said Freeze.
"Are you sure about that?" Aliana asked, smiling slyly.
Using moves they learned in Gymnastics class, the girls maneuvered out of the chamber and closed the door.
"Go, Liona." instructed Dalia.
"Done. I even set it up so their powers get cancelled out." said Liona, "They can't get out of there unless someone lets them out."
"Now that's done, let's go check on the guys!" suggested Samantha.
They went outside to the quad and found that the guys already had the cerberus tied up by the legs.
"What happened to you girls?" Andro asked.
"Yeah, ya missed all the fun." said Harry, sarcastically.
At that moment the bus from the concert returned. All the students and staff all stepped off, but so did Katherine's parents.
"Mom? Dad? What are you doing here?" Katherine asked, nervously.
"We decided to come and check up on you when we ran into your class outside that concert in Magix." Sky explained.
"Looks like they will have to stick around for explanations." said Faragonda, knowingly.
"I agree." said Bloom and Grizelda together.
After the staff freed the witches from the MRC, Faragonda gave them a good scolding and sent them back to CT.
"I am very disappointed in you three!" Faragonda said sternly, "Stealing from my students, attacking them out of rage, and setting a vicious monster on them. You three truly are the Trix's daughters. Once Ms Griffin has given you a proper punishment, I will be sure to send your powers back. Now off with you."
"We'll take this beast back to Red Fountain for the time being, headmiss F." Harry said, casually.
"Very well boys."
"See you tomorrow girls!" said Alessandro, with a smile.
And with that, they left on their Levi-bikes with the restrained Cerberus in tow, and Faragonda turned to the girls.
"We would like to have a word with you six in my office first thing in the morning." said Faragonda.
"Yes headmistress." the girls chorused.
The next day
"We were watching the replays from last night, and we couldn't help but be impressed." said Faragonda, smiling.
"Does this mean we're off the hook?" Ali asked.
"Yes. Though next time, party first then clean." said Bloom.
"Does this mean I'm out of your punishment, mom?" Katherine asked
"Normally I would say no, but your father and I noticed you showed a bit of leadership last night."
"Like mother, like daughter. So this time, we will let it slide." said Sky.
"And here are your powers back girls." said Faragonda.
Later in the dorm
"I feel rockin;." said Liona after they received their powers back.
"And I can make myself snow cones again." said Aliana holding one up.
"Lets make a pact, that from this day forward, we will work as one." said Summer.
"I'm with Summer." said Samantha.
"Here here." said Katherine.
"Count me in." said Dalia, jumping with joy.
"Save room for us." said Aliana and Liona, smiling.
With that they all put their hands together and shouted, "NEW WINX!"
